You may have seen on the television or heard on the radio discussions and advertisements about the Electronic Prescription Service that is going to be rolled out nationwide in the coming months.
This service is a vital new service that has been devised to improve the speed, efficiency and environmental cost of prescription transfers between doctors’ surgeries and pharmacies.
What is the new procedure?
Rather than being given a green piece of paper with your medications on it which you would take into the pharmacy, this list of medications is sent to the pharmacy directly through the computers. This means that instead of printing a prescription and requiring patients to pick them up from the surgery, patients will just have to go to the pharmacy who will have received the prescription on their computers via the NHS network, from the doctor.
Nominating a Pharmacy
It is important that people nominate the pharmacy that is their regular and most convenient pharmacy as this is where your prescriptions will be going from the surgery. Most pharmacies have systems in place for nominating and will more than likely be asking customers if they would like the prescriptions sending to them.
This nomination is not set in stone and changing between pharmacies is easily done. Just because you have nominated a pharmacy does not mean that you will be tied into that pharmacy for life. For one off prescriptions, doctors can change your nomination and then change it back to your normal pharmacy afterwards. Also if you move or prefer another pharmacy you can go into the new pharmacy and ask them to nominate themselves.
If you do not nominate a pharmacy your prescriptions will more than likely go to a default pharmacy chosen by your doctor’s surgery, which may not be the most convenient for you.
This service is not in use everywhere as of yet, but will be coming soon. Make sure you are prepared and have chosen your favourite pharmacy to avoid confusion and prescriptions going astray.
Jaysons pharmacy is ready for the Electronic Prescription Service and we are accepting nominations for doctors in the Long Eaton area (Long Eaton branch) and the Wollaton area (Wollaton branch).
