Pharmacy First Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Assessment – Women (16–64 years)
Are you experiencing pain or burning when passing urine, needing to pass urine more frequently, or an urgent need to go? Our NHS Pharmacy First Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Service provides assessment and treatment for eligible women aged 16–64 years, without needing a GP appointment.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common, particularly in women, and are usually caused by bacteria entering the bladder. Early assessment and treatment can help relieve symptoms and reduce the risk of the infection worsening.
Common symptoms of a urinary tract infection include:
Pain or burning when passing urine (dysuria)
Needing to pass urine more often than usual (frequency)
A sudden or urgent need to pass urine (urgency)
Passing only small amounts of urine
Pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen (suprapubic pain)
Urine that appears cloudy
Strong-smelling urine
Blood in the urine (may occur in some uncomplicated UTIs)
Feeling generally unwell
Most uncomplicated UTIs improve quickly with appropriate treatment. It is important to seek assessment promptly if symptoms are getting worse or do not improve.
