Pharmacy First Sinusitis Assessment – Adults and Young People (12 years and over)

Are you suffering from facial pain, a blocked nose, or symptoms of a sinus infection? Our NHS Pharmacy First Sinusitis Service provides assessment and treatment for eligible patients aged 12 years and over, without needing a GP appointment.

Common symptoms of sinusitis include:

  • Facial pain or pressure, particularly around the cheeks, eyes or forehead

  • Blocked or congested nose

  • Thick yellow or green nasal discharge

  • Reduced or loss of sense of smell

  • Headache

  • Toothache or pain in the upper jaw

  • Fever (high temperature)

  • Bad breath

  • Persistent cough, particularly at night

  • Feeling generally unwell or tired

Sinusitis commonly develops after a cold or upper respiratory tract infection and is caused by inflammation of the sinuses.

Most cases improve within 2 to 3 weeks, although symptoms may last longer in some people.

Who can use this service?

  • Patients aged 12 years and over

  • Face-to-face consultation only

  • Available through the NHS Pharmacy First Service
