What is NHS Pharmacy First?

The NHS Pharmacy First Service allows community pharmacists to assess and treat patients with a range of common conditions without the need to see a GP first.

Following a clinical assessment, your pharmacist may:

  • Provide expert self-care advice.

  • Recommend over-the-counter medicines.

  • Supply NHS prescription-only medicines where clinically appropriate.

  • Refer you to your GP, NHS 111 or hospital if necessary.

This helps patients receive timely treatment while ensuring those needing more specialist care are referred appropriately.
